Looking for unclaimed money in Ontario?
Ontario doesn't run an unclaimed property program, so the money to look for sits with the federal government: $1.88 billion in uncashed CRA cheques and $1.6 billion at the Bank of Canada.

Two federal searches every Canadian should do
- Uncashed CRA cheques. The CRA holds 10,985,540 uncashed cheques worth $1,876,160,000 (October 2026). They're tax refunds, credits and benefit payments, and Government of Canada cheques never expire. Sign in to CRA My Account and open "Uncashed cheques".
- Bank of Canada unclaimed balances. Bank accounts, GICs and bank drafts at federally regulated banks go to the Bank of Canada after 10 years with no activity. It holds $1.6 billion. Search your name, and any past names, for free.
Lived in another province?
If you lived in BC, Alberta, Quebec or New Brunswick, search there too.
Why doesn't Ontario have a program?
Ontario has no unclaimed property legislation in force, so there's no provincial registry to search.
Is searching free?
Yes. The CRA and Bank of Canada searches are free.
