Bumped from an overbooked flight?
When an airline denies you boarding against your will for a reason within its control, Canada's rules set compensation of $900 to $2,400, due within 48 hours.

| You finally arrived | Compensation |
|---|---|
| Less than 6 hours late | $900 |
| 6 to 9 hours late | $1,800 |
| 9 hours or more late | $2,400 |
It's the same for large and small airlines. If you volunteered your seat in exchange for an offer, that deal replaces this compensation.
When is it owed?
When you held a confirmed ticket, checked in on time and were refused boarding against your will for a reason within the airline's control, such as overbooking. Refusals required for safety don't count.
When does the airline have to pay?
As soon as it's operationally feasible, and no later than 48 hours after you were denied boarding (s. 20(2)). If you haven't been paid, ask in writing.
Does it have to be cash?
Yes, unless you agree in writing to another form worth more, that doesn't expire (s. 21).
