| Arrival delay | Large airline | Small airline |
|---|---|---|
| 3 to 6 hours | $400 | $125 |
| 6 to 9 hours | $700 | $250 |
| 9 hours or more | $1,000 | $500 |
When does it apply?
When the delay or cancellation was within the airline's control and not required for safety: crew shortages, overbooking, the airline's own IT problems. Weather, air traffic control and labour disruptions count as outside its control. You also need to have been told 14 days or less before departure.
How long do I have?
Send your claim before the first anniversary of the flight. The airline then has 30 days to pay or explain in writing why not.
Do Americans count?
Yes. Canada's rules cover flights to, from and within Canada, whatever your nationality.
